Juanfran says Atletico Madrid will be a much improved team for their second leg Champions League clash with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The defender acknowledged that Carlo Ancelotti’s men had been the best team in the goalless draw on Tuesday, but believes the result was still a good one for his side.
“I think it’s a great result for the return as we were up against the best Real Madrid team we’ve seen this year at the Calderon,” Juanfran told Cadena SER.
“They were superior in the first half but it’s normal for a team like them to cause you problems. We got out of the opening 45 minutes alive. I expect us to do a lot better at their ground and get through to the semi-finals.
“We are a strong team with a lot of heart, a lot of soul, and I’m sure we can score at least a goal next Wednesday.”
The Spain international also commented on allegations that Mario Mandzukic had been bitten by Dani Carvajal during the game.
“Mario has not said anything about a possible bite but what we did see was a punch,” he claimed.
