Sergi: More good than bad

Sergi Barjuan was happy with his debut as Almeria Coach despite his team going down 4-0 to Barcelona.

The former Barca defender was appointed earlier this week as Juan Ignacio Martinez’s successor and, when speaking to reporters following the final whistle, revealed how little chance he’d had to work with the squad.

“I’m very happy with the team’s play. The balance was good and we often did well on the counter-attack,” he said, AS reports.

“I only worked for three hours with them. The teamwork was amazing and the few moves we worked on, we put into practice. I was impressed with [youth team product] Marin on his debut.

“We take more positives than negatives from this defeat.”

Sergi also admitted it meant more to him to lead a team out at Camp Nou, his home for almost a decade.

“It was special, but it was a coincidence. We tried everything but when you step on the grass here and see the quality [Barca] have, it gets more difficult,” he lamented.

“Xavi? He’s a crack, one of the greats. The progress he has made [since he played with Sergi] speaks of a unique player.”
