Escriba: ‘Elche deserved point’

Elche boss Fran Escriba believed the point his players earned in the 1-1 draw at Espanyol on Monday was just reward for their efforts.

Escriba’s men are now three points clear of the drop zone, Cristian Herrera heading a late equaliser after Sergio Garcia had given the hosts a first-half lead.

“We were always looking to attack our opponent’s goal and are fully satisfied with a point,” he told a Press conference.

“I have to commend my players for the effort they put in and we deserved to come away with something.

“Today we started well, which we didn’t do last year, and the advantage of having a bigger squad allows you to manage three games in a week.”

Los Franjiverdes have been threatened with a points deduction by FIFA due to non-payment of players, although it is something Escriba says he prefers not to think about.

“I don’t have it on my mind but it would be better for everyone involved if it was sorted out. We can’t say anything about it and the only thing I’m thinking about is Thursday’s game with Getafe,” he claimed.
