Bartomeu: ‘I suffered at Celta’

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted he had suffered after watching the Catalans record a 1-0 victory at Celta Vigo.

Defender Jeremy Mathieu headed home the only goal of the game on 72 minutes and Bartomeu conceded afterwards that it had been a hard-fought win at Balaidos.

“I suffered a lot watching this game but it’s a step forward towards our objective of winning La Liga,” he declared.

“I have to congratulate Celta on playing a good game and I remember they beat us at the Camp Nou earlier this season by playing good football.

“It’s vital now that everyone gives what he can and from what I’m told Real Madrid played a great match against Granada.”

Bartomeu also commented on the future of midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who took the free-kick that led to Mathieu’s winning goal.

“Whenever Xavi goes on the pitch he plays well and he’s always been very important for Barcelona. He knows that at the end of the season he can stay for another year if that’s what he wants.

“He has earned the right to decide his own future but it would be very good it he stayed.”
