Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran says his team will not give up the fight to retain their La Liga crown despite Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Valencia.
The Spain international, true to character, says he has nothing but optimism for what lies ahead for the remainder of the season.
“If there is something about this team it is that it never gives up and we are not going to surrender,” Juanfran told Mundo Deportivo.
“We are all going to give our best and personally I’ll do my best to support the team in whatever capacity I’m needed.
“There’s no crisis of results and we are not on a bad run. We are strong and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t know this team, least of all Atletico Madrid.
“I believe we are competing well and that the fans are proud of us. We’ll be doing our utmost right until the end of the season. I’m very relaxed about it.”
Juanfran rejected claims that the Atleti defence was at fault for Valencia’s equalling goal at the Vicente Calderon.
“We didn’t make a mistake. It was an isolated situation where the ball hit the post and they took advantage of the rebound. In the minutes before that we could have scored a second and it would have been a very different story.
“This is football and nobody knows what’s in store. What is important is the feeling between the fans and ourselves, which is good.
“We must take advantage of that by winning at Espanyol this Saturday,” he concluded.
