Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez has defended his team’s approach despite going down to a 6-1 thrashing against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi scored a record-breaking 24th La Liga hat-trick with Luis Suarez (2) and Gerard Pique also on target as the Blaugrana returned to the top of the table in emphatic style.

However, Jemez declared himself satisfied with the attitude shown by his players.

“I am happy with the role of my players because they gave body and soul,” he told a post-match Press conference.

“We tried to play as we usually do and if we could have taken anything from the game we would have done.

“It’s difficult for a Coach to say he is satisfied when his team has conceded six goals but that is how I feel. We’ve got where we are playing the same way and nobody can criticise us for anything.

“What we don’t do is change our style depending on who the opposition is, but when you face teams like Barcelona these things happen.

“I see playing at the Camp Nou as a reward and a chance to see how far we can go,” he added.
