Eduardo Berizzo felt Villarreal’s extra quality was the deciding factor after seeing his Celta Vigo side go down 4-1 at El Madrigal.
The hosts recorded an eighth straight home win in La Primera and Berizzo acknowledged the gulf in class between the sides.
“The individual quality Villarreal possess conditioned the match,” the Argentine told a post-match Press conference.
“You could say that beat us fairly and squarely and we found it difficult to contain their attackers. Their first two goals scored within a few minutes meant we faced an uphill task.
“However, my team showed a very good attitude. I don’t know if the scoreline was a fair reflection of what we saw on the pitch but Villarreal were deserved winners.
“In the first half we did well and got plenty of possession, which is important against them, but the two goals before the break unbalanced us.
“We reacted well and came back in the second half but they made it 3-1 when we were at our best. That really hurt us,” he admitted.
