Pepe to pen new Madrid deal

Real Madrid defender Pepe’s new contract agreement with the club is only a matter of time, according to Marca.

The Portuguese’s current arrangement expires in June 2016 and two years ago he was reportedly set to join Manchester City, with only doubts over Raphael Varane’s recovery from injury and Carlo Ancelotti’s insistence he remain in the Spanish capital keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, it is now understood Los Blancos are ready to offer him a new deal and the 32-year-old is due to put pen to paper shortly.

Both Pepe and Madrid have agreed that he will remain on his present salary, although a minor stumbling block is the length of his new contract.

The European champions have offered Pepe an additional season, tying him to Madrid until 2017, but the player is thought to be keen to stay until 2018.
