Berizzo unhappy at Elche penalty

Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo was left feeling ‘frustrated’ at seeing his side concede a controversial late penalty against Elche on Monday.

David Lomban tucked the spot-kick away two minutes from time to earn the visitors a 1-1 draw at Balaidos after Michael Krohn-Dehli had given the hosts the lead on the hour mark.

“After all the effort we put in, for the match to be resolved that way was frustrating and unfair,” Berizzo told a post-match Press conference.

“Without playing a great game, above all in the first half when we were lethargic, I think we were our normal selves after the break.

“But I got the impression that it wasn’t a penalty. However, I don’t normally refer to referees’ decisions because I trust in them as they also have the right to be wrong.”

The Argentine felt the state of the pitch was a problem for his players, but did not want to make that an excuse.

“We struggled to move the ball because the pitch was heavy and it didn’t flow as it usually does.

“In the second half we had chances to finish off the game but it didn’t materialise,” he lamented.
