Real Madrid icon Raul Gonzalez has predicted his old club will have a more difficult game than last time against Schalke, another of his ex-employers.
Madrid hammered Schalke 6-1 in Gelsenkirchen when the sides met in last year’s Champions League and Los Blancos resume the defence of their crown this year against the same opposition.
Raul has told German publication Kicker that Madrid shouldn’t expect this encounter to take a similar trajectory.
“In principle it’s straightforward for Madrid, but you have to win every game on the field,” he said, according to AS.
“Schalke will do everything they can to spoil the party. Surely it won’t be so easy again.”
Raul, now playing for the New York Cosmos, also reflected on his time in the Bundesliga.
“From the first day to the last there was a very special connection with the fans,” he recalled.
“Will it be the same in New York? That would be nice and I expect a great experience but different from Schalke, which was unrepeatable.”
