‘Athletic depend on Aduriz’

Athletic Bilbao Coach Ernesto Valverde has admitted his side rely too heavily on Aritz Aduriz ahead of the game against Granada.

Valverde appeared at his pre-match Press conference and recalled the first meeting between the sides of the season, acknowledging that the defeat at San Mames hurt his team a great deal.

“It was practically the beginning of our slump. We played three games that week and only had one point,” he recalled, AS reports.

“It did a lot of damage, coming after the Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

“They have changed under Abel Resino. I worry that they’ve had all week to prepare and have signed several good players.

“We are heavily dependent on Aduriz. We need other people or a playmaker to get involved in dangerous situations. We need it, I won’t deny.

“In this aspect we’re not very good. Other teams have more players who can influence the game.

“We are having more difficulty [creating chances] than last year. We have to improve.”
