Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde believes the 1-1 draw with Malaga at San Mames was unfair on his players, who should have won the game.
Mikel San Jose put the Basques ahead on 70 minutes only for Javi Guerra to equalise for the Andalusians eight minutes later, but Valverde felt his team did enough to claim all three points.
“The reality is that we didn’t have much luck and they took advantage of the opportunity we gave them,” he told a Press conference.
“Their goal was a catalogue of errors from us but I prefer to look on the positive side and we played well.
“We always go out to win and the level of intensity we showed was very high. We must continue like that.
“We didn’t win today but it’s one more point as we enter the second round of games,” he concluded.
