Marcelino hails Bruno’s contribution

Villarreal boss Marcelino was full of praise for substitute Bruno after the 1-0 first-leg Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Getafe at El Madrigal.

The Yellow Submarine take the slender advantage into next Thursday’s return thanks to captain Bruno’s superb free-kick from outside the box five minutes from the final whistle, setting up a potential semi-final with either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid.

“There is no doubt that Bruno’s appearance proved decisive because he scored a goal. But he is one of the best midfielders in Europe,” claimed Marcelino at the post-match Press conference.

“It was a good result because it means our opponents will need to score twice to beat us. We also kept a clean sheet and that’s another reason for satisfaction.

“We tend to create a lot of chances so it makes it even more important to defend well, although at times we lacked a little speed and depth.

“We could have opened the game up a bit more but it’s logical that Getafe defended and looked to play on the counter-attack,” he explained.
