Quique: Getafe needed the win

Quique Sanchez Flores said his Getafe team needed the 1-0 Copa del Rey win over Almeria on Wednesday to break its poor run of form.

An Alvaro Vazquez goal 16 minutes from time proved enough to seal El Geta’s passage through to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 aggregate victory, where they will face Villarreal who knocked out David Moyes’ Real Sociedad.

Nonetheless, Quique insisted that despite the good Cup run La Liga remains the priority.

“The victory was important to break the bad run but our main objective is not this – it’s the League,” he told a post-match Press conference.

“The Cup is what it is and we’ll have to deal with it, but it’s not going to change anything. I still have a lot to learn with Getafe, to get to know the players and how they react in adversity.

“We face Real Madrid on Sunday and my team has to recover. We still have a lot to do and can’t afford to waste any time,” he asserted.
