Zubi to leave Barcelona?

Barcelona are considering Andoni Zubizarreta’s position as sporting director, according to reports in Spain today.

The former Spain goalkeeper has come under fire for La Blaugrana’s business in the transfer market this summer, which included the arrival of an injured Thomas Vermaelen and unfavoured right-back Douglas Pereira.

As a result of the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to uphold Barca’s transfer embargo, President Josep Maria Bartomeu has reportedly lost confidence in the 53-year-old and is already mulling over his possible departure.

Nonetheless, the patron is not expected to make an immediate decision as he plans to step up the search for a replacement, with former defender Carles Puyol reportedly in the running.

The fans’ disdain for the official’s work at Camp Nou was made clear during Lionel Messi's on-pitch parade following the No 10's exploits in surpassing Telmo Zarra's La Liga goalscoring record two months ago.

Zubizarreta replaced Txiri Begiristain as Barca’s sporting director in the summer of 2010.
