Casillas: I’m staying at Madrid

Iker Casillas says he plans to remain at Real Madrid and has no reason to leave the club in the foreseeable future.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who has been the subject of fans’ criticism over the past 12 months, has two years left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, plus an option for a third, and told Marca he has no intention of going anywhere.

“This has been my best year. We’ve won four titles and I managed to play in all of them,” he remarked.

“It doesn’t get much better than that and I can’t just forget those things because of a bad six weeks.

“I’m taking things one step at a time. I’m under contract here and have no reason to think about leaving.”

Casillas is hoping to put an end to the rumours he may exit the club, while boss Carlo Ancelotti now appears to have shelved any attempt to bring Manchester United stopper David de Gea back to Spain.
