Escriba: Valladolid made it difficult

Elche boss Fran Escriba admitted his side had struggled to overcome Real Valladolid in their Copa del Rey clash on Thursday night.

La Liga’s bottom side put their struggles behind them, Adrian’s seventh-minute goal proving enough to give them a 1-0 aggregate win over Valladolid to set up a last 16 clash with Barcelona.

“I prefer results to performances but they made things very difficult for us, particularly in the second half,” said Escriba, who refused to think about the Barca game.

“It has not even crossed my mind, although the Catalans are obviously clear favourites to progress against us.”

Escriba also commented on the chants from Elche fans during the game asking for the resignation of club President Jose Sepulchre.

“I always respect what people say but at that moment we needed the fans to be getting behind the team.

“If they are not in favour of the Coach, for example, then let them express their feelings after the game,” he argued.
