Escriba: We were in it 90 minutes

Elche boss Fran Escriba said his team were in the game for the whole 90 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Deportivo la Coruna on Monday.

A Luis Farina goal on 22 minutes proved enough to root Elche firmly to the bottom of the table as they passed up the opportunity to move out of the relegation zone.

However, Escriba was pleased with his side’s performance and believed they should have got something from the game.

“We were in it for 90 minutes. Maybe they had more of the first half but we showed our character the entire match,” he told reporters.

“Our level of effort, intensity and will to win was good and we were more like ourselves in the second half when we were behind.

“The players are annoyed, as they should be. We all are. Right now we are down but we have a game in three days and another one three days after that.

“The idea is to get through these bad times and the important thing is that we are creating chances.

“At least the opposition goalkeeper needed to have a great game. We must continue in this way and improve in all aspects of the game,” he concluded.
