Zubi: Barca didn’t experiment

Andoni Zubizarreta has insisted that Barcelona 'did not experiment' during Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

La Blaugrana started with an unfamiliar line-up against the French giants, as Luis Enrique adopted a 3-5-1-1 formation, but the sporting director dismissed the unusual nature of the team's set-up, instead praising them for their versatility.

"The first half was very intense, it was a great football game," Zubizarreta told reporters after Barca topped Group F.

"We started with the three forwards and Luis Suarez managed to score.

"We were very tight-knit in the match. We played with a new, different tactic, which created spaces for us to exploit.

"We had success in attack, and the goals from Leo and Neymar gave us peace.

"We didn't experiment. The Coach is the one who knows the opponents and studied them to give us an advantage.

"We're a club who likes to see football played in various ways, and we like a Coach who dares to make tactical decisions.

"Bartra was great. He showed great character to play at centre-back and did very well.

"Playing three centre-backs has nothing to do with trust in the players, we trust everyone, Douglas and Montoya too.

"Any team in the knockout stages deserve respect. We'll play the second leg at home, but any of our rivals will be at a huge level."
