Diego Simeone believed the introduction of Antoine Griezmann made the difference in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 win at L’Hospitalet.
Los Rojiblancos had struggled to break down the minnows in their first-leg Copa del Rey match and went into half-time with the game scoreless.
However, the introduction of Griezmann from the bench after the restart saw the Frenchman put his team ahead, before Gabi and ‘Cebolla’ Rodriguez wrapped things up and brought the prospect of a derby with Real Madrid in the next round ever closer.
“I think we played quite well and improved in the second half, but in the opening 45 minutes they closed the spaces down well and almost didn’t let us in,” the Argentine told a Press conference.
“But with the arrival of Griezmann all the players improved, and Lucas in particular produced a good performance for one so young.
“Our opponents were good tactically and that made us uncomfortable. They left a good impression,” he added.
