Kameni: I can relate to Casillas

Carlos Kameni has spoken of his admiration for Iker Casillas and believes he can relate to the goalkeeper's recent issues.

The Cameroonian – who kept goal for Malaga during the side's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday – failed to displace Willy Caballero upon his arrival two years ago.

His situation drew parallels with Los Blancos' custodian, as the captain also suffered the ignominy of being second-choice and a loss of form for both club and country.

"We have a good relationship and admire each other very much," he told reporters after the match.

"We've recently experienced similar situations and spoken about them."

Kameni then praised his Malaga teammates for putting in a 'phenomenal' performance against Madrid and leapt to the defence of the match referee for his failure to spot Karim Benzema's tugging of Weligton's shirt.

"I think Madrid deserved the win but we tried our best and I stopped what I could, but it's a shame when you achieve nothing," he added.

"With a little bit of luck we could have got something out of the game, but [Madrid] are not top by chance.

"We knew it'd be a difficult game, but we responded and that's what matters.

"Malaga deserve great credit. We did a phenomenal job and had a good game despite losing.

"The team responded perfectly well. We're not just individuals, we all work together and help the team.

"I saw the [Benzema] incident, but football is very quick. If the referee didn't see that part of the match, he's human."
