Zubi ‘accepts Barca fans’ criticism’

Andoni Zubizarreta isn’t concerned by images of himself and Josep Maria Bartomeu being whistled by the Barcelona supporters.

A video tribute to Lionel Messi was shown at Camp Nou after Messi broke Telmo Zarra’s League goals record with a hat-trick over Sevilla and AS reports the appearance of the sporting director and the President was greeted with boos.

Zubi commented on the incident as he was leaving for Cyprus ahead of Barca’s Champions League fixture with APOEL Nicosia, and also touched on the fitness of Thomas Vermaelen and the match itself.

“I accept criticism with all the modesty in the world. Barca are at the point of continually looking at everything and everything is questioned,” he said.

“The important thing is that Camp Nou enjoyed the game and went home satisfied with the game and with the smile of Messi in their mind.

“Like those who aren’t players, we didn’t need to be in that video. Football is about the footballers.

“Vermaelen is in the process of recovery. We value the medical services and they will decide what to do. I don’t know if Vermaelen will have surgery. We’ll do what’s best for him.

“It’s important to finish top of the group and we know APOEL are a team that requires a lot and it’s a game we’ll have to fight for.”
