Kameni happy ‘out of the shadows’

Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has spoken of his happiness at being given the chance to step out of Willy Caballero’s shadow.

Willy joined Manchester City over the summer, joining up with former Malaga Coach Manuel Pellegrini, to provide back-up to and competition for England international Joe Hart.

Kameni had previously been Willy’s understudy but upon the Argentine’s departure has been given the chance to take the gloves at La Rosaleda, and it relishing the opportunity.

“You feel happy when you’re playing. For two years I had to put up with it and keep working in the shadow of Willy, who did great. I’m enjoying it,” he said, AS reports.

Malaga are currently on a run of five straight victories and when asked if the team could cope with the stress of maintaining that form, Kameni replied that doing so comes with the territory.

“Keep going! It’s good and we’re happy. It’s a prize for the work we do,” he added.

“The international break is always good. We can rest and recharge, and then we play against Atletico Madrid. The break doesn’t interrupt the streak. We can continue on this dynamic.

“Our fans are a 10. They provide support in every game.”
