Mario: Atleti must go on

Mario Suarez wants to see Atletico Madrid maintain their form after the narrow win over Getafe on Sunday night.

The only goal of the game came from Mario Mandzukic and despite El Geta going down to 10 men, Atletico were holding on to the advantage, Mario acknowledged.

“They made it closer in the second half and thank God we held on to the three points,” he said, AS reports.

“It’s been shown here we need to improve. We follow our way of doing things, we won and we must go on.

“Mandzukic is doing a good job for the team, plus to score a goal is good for him and for the team. Hopefully it stays that way in front of goal.”

The match was somewhat bad tempered, with Alexis dismissed and an allegation of stamping made by Miranda against Juan Rodriguez.

“It’s normal there’s tension. I haven’t seen what happened but Alexis says what he did was inadvertent,” Mario noted.

“Then Miranda has said Rodriguez has stamped. These things are normal. It’s normal there’s tension but they are sportsmen.”

Mario has worked his way back into the Atletico side in recent games and admitted he wants to keep his place, but stressed his main objective is to do what the team needs.

“I have to work to keep my place but in the last two games we’ve been missing players,” he acknowledged.

“I always want to help the team.”
