Samu looking for Malaga minutes

Samuel Garcia hopes to get more playing time at Malaga under Javi Gracia but admits his pre-season injury has been a factor.

The 24-year-old has made only a handful of appearances this season and has said he is keeping motivated despite being on the sidelines.

“The feeling is the same [as last year],” he said, AS reports.

“I’m still working with the same desire. It’s true I joined the squad later because of injury at that has hurt me.

“I’m playing less than I would like but I’m still working with the enthusiasm of last year.

“My expectations are to play as much as possible and to keep working. There are quality players here and that’s welcome.

“I haven’t spoken to the Coach about it. But he has encouraged me to keep working and the minutes will come.”

Samu added that he sees a strong Malaga squad and he is pleased by the representation of the cantera.

“I see the team going well. We were missing a bit of luck in front of goal in the last match, against Granada, but we reacted well and turned the game around, with a player less. That gives us confidence,” he continued.

“Samu Castillejo and Juanpi are players I have watched for years and I knew they’d make it because they have quality.

“I’m very proud that that locals and cantera players are reaching the first team.”
