Del Bosque: Brazil made me stronger

Vicente del Bosque feels the disappointment of Spain’s early exit at the World Cup in Brazil has made him even stronger.

La Roja exited the tournament at the group stage after suffering crushing defeats at the hands of Holland and Chile.

Nonetheless, the La Roja boss believes he has come through the experience unscathed, as he told Marca.

“There was self-criticism after the World Cup and the first thing we did was to say we did not perform at our best. It’s not possible to be more self-critical than that.

“It’s not easy to pinpoint the reasons. We trained well and people were motivated, so there was nothing to predict what was going to happen,” he reasoned

“Without losing sight of what happened to us, it should serve as more experience and we can’t stop looking forward, as anyone involved in sport should do.

“I don’t know how to explain the difference between defeat and victory, but that’s how I feel. After losing we’ve had the same number of requests to play games despite people saying we were going to places just because we had won things.

“The most important thing is emotional strength, both in victory and defeat, and I suppose losing in the World Cup has made me even stronger,” he declared.
