Raphael Varane has thanked Real Madrid for showing faith in him with the reward of a new contract.
Varane yesterday put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal and says he never wanted to leave Santiago Bernabeu.
“I’m very happy to stay here. I always thought about staying at the club and this contract ensures that,” Marca reports the France international as saying.
“The people here treat me very well, almost like a cantera kid. It’s an honour to be here and I’m very lucky to defend this shirt.
“This contract is the confidence the club has in me and I want to continue developing.
“I’ve learned a lot since I arrived when I was 18 and I want to keep doing so at this great club. I am more mature and I’ve learned a lot.”
Varane added that the goal now is to continue winning trophies and having happy times as a Madrid player.
“We will try to retain the European Cup and other titles. We have a fantastic squad,” he continued.
“I think we can achieve a lot. We’ve lived many good and bad times and I am proud there will be more good times in the future and happy I’ll be here.”
