Ancelotti: Xabi took us all by surprise

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted his surprise at seeing Xabi Alonso leave Real Madrid for Bayern Munich.

The Spain international officially left the European champions on Friday to sign for the Bundesliga outfit.

And ahead of their match against Real Sociedad tomorrow, the Italian Coach has conceded that he was a little shocked that the veteran departed.

“Xabi took us all by surprise, but we've still got Toni Kroos, who is only 24,” he told a Press conference.

Ancelotti then commented on Cristiano Ronaldo, who he confirmed will miss the game tomorrow.

“Cristiano is alright, but we opted for him to rest this week and over the next couple of weeks so that he's in tip-top condition to face Atletico and for the first Champions League match.

“He's not going to play against Real Sociedad tomorrow – he's not in the squad.”

Lastly, the tactician insisted that Los Blancos were not looking to sign any more players during this window.

“I don't need to bring in anyone, but if we feel there's someone out there who could improve the squad, we'll sign them.”
