Murcia case delays Segunda start

The start date of the Segunda has been pushed back as the situation involving Real Murcia is clarified, the LFP have confirmed.

Mundo Deportivo report the second tier was due to get underway over the final weekend of August but after a judge ruled Murcia should not have been relegated for financial reasons, the first fixtures have been delayed.

A meeting will be held on Monday to address the issue with the clubs, the LFP, the RFEF and the players’ association, the AFE, involved.

The LFP have said in a statement that they respect the decision of the court and have delayed the start of the League while the situation is resolved.

They have also contacted the teams in the League to inform them of their position and said in a statement they expect developments over the next 10 days.

As it stands the Segunda has 23 teams, with Murcia readmitted, although such a structural change requires the agreement of the RFEF.

A new calendar will also have to be drawn up and the agreement of the AFE is required before the schedule can be confirmed.

Monday will also see the LFP consider their response to the court, with LFP President Javier Tebas to hold a Press conference at the end of the series of meetings.
