Mario not concerned with Atleti blanks

Mario Suarez isn’t worried by the lack of goals in Atletico Madrid’s pre-season as the champions recorded another goalless draw.

Atletico drew 0-0 with Galatasaray and have yet to score this summer but Mario believes Los Colchoneros were the better side in Istanbul and are on track for the start of the new campaign.

“We were on top and had more opportunities. We’ve got the same defensive line as always and we’re not getting the rebounds in attack,” AS reports the midfielder as saying.

“We’re still missing [Antoine] Griezmann and [Tony] Alderweireld. We have to be calm because there are still two games before the start of the season.

“Lack of goals? No worries. We’re in pre-season, we have games, we’re missing people in attack, it was [Mario] Mandzukic’s second game.

“We continue to work hard and the team is creating chances, which is important.”

Mario added that Mandzukic has, to his eye, looked good in his early outings for his new team following a summer move from Bayern Munich.

“He looks good and he’s giving his all. We have to acclimatise to him and him to us,” he continued.

“There will be problems and a lot of joy. I’m sure the Coach has ideas for the team to create chances.”

He was also asked about the Supercopa, the two-legged meeting with Copa del Rey winners Real Madrid, the first time the clubs face each other since the Champions League final.

“It means a lot. The team is on the right lines, doing well and feeling good,” Mario added.

“In defence we have the same seriousness and commitment and even if we lack good feelings we’ll be ready.”
