Hierro persuades Casillas to stay

Real Madrid assistant Fernando Hierro has convinced Iker Casillas to stay at the club despite Keylor Navas’ arrival.

The 33-year-old’s future was thought to be in doubt following the signing of the Costa Rica international at the weekened.

However, DirectTV Sports understands that the former Blancos defender, who played alongside Casillas at the start of the century, persuaded him to remain in the capital.

Hierro replaced Zinedine Zidane in Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff over the summer, and already seems to be taking to the role.

Rumours are that Diego Lopez will now leave Santiago Bernabeu, with Monaco the likely destination.
