La Liga fixtures to be announced

This season’s La Liga fixtures will be known today as the LFP are to announce the calendar from 12.30pm local time.

The campaign is due to get underway on the weekend of August 23 and the 2014-15 season will conclude on May 24, the LFP have confirmed.

There are to be three midweek match days – Wednesday 24 September, Wednesday 8 April and Wednesday 29 April.

Real Madrid’s participation in the Club World Cup mean their fixtures will be rescheduled, as will some of their Copa del Rey dates.

Marca add that Luis Suarez’s four-month ban from all football for biting Giorgio Chiellini is due to expire on October 26, pending appeal.

As it stands, the former Liverpool forward will be unable to play in the League for Barcelona until the first weekend of November.

Last season’s League title race went to the final day as Atletico Madrid beat Barca to top spot, while Real Betis, Osasuna and Real Valladolid were relegated.

Eibar, Deportivo La Coruna and Cordoba were promoted at the end of last season.

The Segunda fixtures will also today be revealed, from 5.30pm local time.
