Slovenian national team boss Srecko Katanec has warned Jan Oblak that his move to Atletico Madrid ‘is a big leap’.
The young goalkeeper signed a six-year deal with the champions this week, joining from Portuguese champions Benfica.
And the Coach has claimed that the 21-year-old may find it tough to begin with, but will be a success in La Liga.
“It’s a huge leap for him,” he told AS. “But I’m absolutely delighted for Jan.
“I don’t think you can compare Portugal and Spain. Benfica are a massive club, but Spain is at least three or four step up.
“I know him personally, and I know he’s a good lad, who’s not afraid of a challenge.
“Replacing [Thibaut] Courtois isn’t going to be easy because he’s one of the best in the world.
“But I believe that Oblak can rise to the challenge. He’s a complete goalkeeper.”
