Bartomeu pays Di Stefano tribute

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has paid tribute to Real Madrid icon Alfredo Di Stefano, who passed away earlier this week.

AS reports that Bartomeu visited the chapel in Santiago Bernabeu and met with Florentino Perez, his Madrid counterpart, before speaking with Madrid TV and reflecting on the life of Di Stefano.

“The figure of Alfredo Di Stefano is universal. He was a Madridista and one of the greatest players to have ever existed,” Bartomeu said.

“His was a way of playing that impressed. My father and grandfather called him ‘Don Alfredo.’ He brought a different way of playing.

“He made a great contribution to Madrid. A great player brings great things.

“I think that despite the rivalry between our clubs everyone in the world of football should be together. My best wishes to the football family and the family of Madrid.”
