Atleti told €30m for Iturbe

Atletico Madrid have asked Verona about Juan Iturbe and been informed that it will take €30m to sign the Argentine.

AS cites a report from Sportitalia that says Atletico are in the market for a player who can play on either wing or as a second striker, with Iturbe tagged as the replacement for Christian Rodriguez.

Iturbe spent last season on loan at Verona from Porto and completed a permanent transfer to the Serie A club at the end of the campaign. Verona are expected to sell Iturbe on immediately and Juventus are rivalling Atleti for his signature.

Atleti have met with Iturbe’s representatives and would finance the transfer through use of an investment fund, it’s claimed, but the champions also indicated that Iturbe was not their only option.

Benfica’s Nico Gaitan is also on Atletico’s radar and the Lisbon club would likely accept €25m for the winger, despite Gaitan’s contract having a €40m release clause.

Atletico could face competition for Iturbe from closer to home as Carlo Ancelotti has pushed for Real Madrid to consider the 21-year-old.
