Rakitic: I want to make history

New Barcelona signing Ivan Rakitic says he wants to make history with the Catalan giants.

The 26-year-old has completed his move to Camp Nou from Sevilla and it has today been confirmed he will wear the number four shirt for the Blaugrana.

“I want to say thank you to the club for the way they had treated me,” Rakitic was quoted as saying by Marca earlier today.

“The most important thing is to feel comfortable and I want to give thanks for that.

“I hope I can reward their confidence. I want to make history at Barca.

“I am very happy with the last few days, they have been very important for me. Since the first day I had the chance to talk to Zubi, I was able to say yes like on the day I got married!

“At Schalke I played as the sole anchorman and I will be at the disposition of what the Coach asks me to do.

“I have spoken to Luis Enrique. We all know how he was as a footballer. The talks were very good and very positive.

“It’s special to get the same number as Pep Guardiola. He made history as a player and Coach. Hopefully I will have the same success that he had.”

Rakitic also revealed he has spoken to Croatian international teammate and friend Luka Modric about his move.

“I spoke to Modric, he wanted me to be in a team with him. But that is of secondary importance and it doesn’t matter.”
