Sergi to take Betis post?

Former Spain international Sergi Barajuan is to become the new Coach of Real Betis, according to reports in Spain.

AS cite claims by Radio Sevilla that Sergi, who is currently on the bench at Recreativo Huelva, will take over relegated Betis for next season.

His appointment will not be confirmed until Recreativo’s future is known as they could still get into the Segunda play-offs.

Recreativo are currently two points outside the play-off places with one game to go. Eibar and Deportivo La Coruna have already confirmed their places in next year’s top flight.

Betis ended the season with Gabriel Calderon in charge but the Argentine couldn’t prevent the drop to the second tier, Betis finishing bottom of the table.

Sergi was part of the Barcelona Dream Team of Johan Cruyff and later played for Atletico Madrid, and represented La Roja at two World Cups.
