Bartomeu talks Barca transfers

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has given an insight into the club’s transfer plans for the summer.

Bartomeu was speaking on Onda Cero and while he stressed Barca would go about their business the right way, he did offer his thoughts on a number of possible arrivals.

He also discussed Tata Martino, Luis Enrique, Andoni Zubizarreta and the season as a whole.

“We prefer to act with discretion. Whether we sell anyone or not depends. Barca might not want to sell but if the player wants to go, we’ll talk,” he said.

“As everyone knows, it hurt us very badly to let Victor Valdes go. We have decided to sign a second goalkeeper and lots of names have been discussed.

“[Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen was the only goalkeeper we wanted. We first looked at him two years ago.

“I’m not saying Marquinhos is the centre-back [Barca will sign]. There are talks with several players and some will come.

“I trust a lot in Zubizarreta. He’s done a magnificent job. I’d tell people who criticise him that he’s not the only one here.

“Many things can pass in 91 days and surely they will. Each year there are major changes and we’ll certainly see one or two.”

Bartomeu was asked specifically about a number of players currently contracted to other clubs, and he largely took a diplomatic stance, although he was more forthcoming about Atletico Madrid’s Koke.

“We aren’t set on Arda Turan. Koke is a spectacular player that any team would want to have,” Bartomeu said, amid speculation of a move for the Spain man.

“Sergio Aguero is a player of Manchester City. There are a lot of players who can sell shirts.

“Ivan Rakitic has a contract with his club. I can’t speak for the Coach but he is a great player.”
