Aguirre set for Espanyol exit

Mundo Deportivo report that Espanyol Coach Javier Aguirre is set to leave the club.

The Mexican took over Los Periquitos in 2012 and has presided over a mid-table finish in La Liga this season.

In truth, the tactician’s position has been uncertain for a while and he is said to have endured a frosty relationship with the club’s sporting director Oscar Perarnau.

A poor recent run of results has only compounded the issue and according to the report the duo will meet today for talks.

Though Perarnau will thank Aguirre for his efforts at the club, the meeting is highly likely to end with the agreement that the Coach will leave.

He is however expected to remain in charge of Los Periquitos for their final matches of the season. They travel to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid on Saturday in their last La Liga assignment, before taking on Barcelona next Wednesday in the Copa Catalunya final.
