Alonso loses CL final ban appeal

Xabi Alonso will be suspended for the Champions League final after UEFA rejected the Real Madrid man’s appeal against his semi-final booking.

The yellow card was Alonso’s third in the competition and an attempt to get the punishment overturned was rejected by UEFA, who don’t allow for appeals against the automatic one-game ban brought by a third caution.

Alonso was booked for a challenge on Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mundo Deportivo notes, and as such will miss the game against Atletico Madrid on May 24 in Lisbon.

Sergio Ramos also went into the game against Bayern on a yellow card but avoided having his name taken by the referee before he was substituted in the second-half.
