Fran Escriba revealed he was happy with seeing Elche take a point against Villarreal on Sunday.
Escriba’s side are now two points clear of the drop zone and he added that while Elche are still in danger, there is cause for optimism.
Damian Suarez put Elche in front with a penalty but Jonathan Pereira levelled for the Yellow Submarine.
“Numerically it’s only a very short step,” he told reporters after the final whistle.
“But you have to consider our opponent, who may be playing in Europe next season.
“It’s a point well earned. There was a lot of intensity from both sides.
“This result is worth a lot of credit. We wanted the win but the opponent was too good and they have players at a high level.
“As a Coach I’m very happy with the performance of the team.
“We created chances and left everything on the field.
“Relegation is going to be close and the next match will be very important for our future.”
