Casillas: Clasico comes at the right time

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas doesn’t think Sunday’s Clasico will be ‘decisive’ in the race for the title.

Los Blancos host Barcelona on Sunday evening and could go seven points clear of their Catalan rivals with a win.

But the shot-stopper has insisted that Atletico Madrid are still in with a chance to finish top.

“We’re talking about two candidates to win the League, so it’s an important game for both of us,” he told AS.

“I don’t know whether it will be decisive in terms of who goes on to win the title – and Atlético can’t be discounted.

“The timing couldn’t be much better, we’re top of the table – little by little we’ve managed to climb up into pole position.”

The Spain international then reminisced on his first experience of a Clasico, back in 2000.

“I remember my first one – for me, it was the nicest one I’ve played in. It was a very emotional experience as it was the first time I’d faced Barcelona and it was at the Bernabeu.”
