Escriba puts penalty miss aside

Fran Escriba doesn’t want to dwell on Coro’s missed penalty after Elche and Osasuna drew 0-0 on Friday.

Coro had the chance to put Elche in front but skied his spot kick, yet the Coach didn’t put any blame on the missed effort.

Indeed, Escriba insisted it was wrong to suggest Elche would have gone on to win had Coro converted.

“We’ll never know if we’d have won or not,” he told his post-match Press conference.

“It’s not the first time or last time something like that will happen.

“We always have two or three penalty takers but we won’t give what happened any more thought.”

The result leaves Elche in 12th place with 26 points from 24 games.

Escriba added he felt there were plenty of positives to take from the match.

“I would have loved the three points but I prefer to be positive.

“We competed well, although we didn’t keep the ball well in the first-half, but we corrected that in the second.

“This is the third home game we haven’t conceded and third where we’ve taken points. Any time you get points, it’s positive.

“It wasn’t the best game but there were lots of chances. Neither team really surprised the other, I think it was an even game.”
