Espanyol expect to confirm the agreement of a new contract with goalkeeper Kiko Casilla within the next two weeks.
The club’s President, Joan Collet, revealed that talks have been on-going with the stopper and a deal is closer than ever.
“It is the most advanced renewal talks we have and a deal could be done within 10 days,” Collet is reported by Marca as saying.
“We must look over all contracts to make sure they’re right before signing,” he added.
Collet also discussed Espanyol’s chances of qualifying for European football this season, admitting there are those at the club who feel it’s possible and those who disagree.
“There is a war between those who say yes and those who say we’re where we deserve to be,” he added.
“And some even think with a little luck we could be higher.”
Espanyol are currently ninth in the table, 11 points adrift of fourth-place Athletic Bilbao.
