Jese: Di Maria’s assist was perfect

Jese has thanked Angel Di Maria for giving him the perfect assist to score in Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey win over Atletico Madrid.

The youngster scored the second goal on the 3-0 win, with Pepe and Di Maria claiming the first and third respectively, and praised his teammates for the performance as a whole.

“We were really good,” Jese told reporters.

“We have to keep pushing on. There’s no other way to win games.

“We’ve got great team and we came with a lot of intensity, that has been key. We’re in good form and we have to keep it up. It’s difficult but we have to continue.”

On the subject of his goal, Jese believes it came through a combination of Di Maria’s vision and some good fortune.

“Di Maria’s pass is amazing. He told me later he was just waiting for me to get away from my marker.

“He gave me a perfect pass and I had a little luck because [Thibaut] Courtois wasn’t expecting me to take it first time.

“It’s a very nice goal. A subtle touch on a fast move. If I didn’t take it with my first touch I wouldn’t have scored because the defence is closing in on me.”

Jese added that he had set himself a target of 10 goals for the season – last night’s was his third so far – and doesn’t feel the competition for places under Carlo Ancelotti is holding him back.

“It’s good that everyone’s competing for a spot. I know I have to keep working.

“I’ve been lucky enough to score goals in big games and I’m very happy for the chance I’ve been given by Zizou and Ancelotti.”
