Martino: League in Barca’s hands

Barcelona Coach Tata Martino believes his team will decide the destination of the League title despite slipping to second.

Atletico Madrid now top the standings after Barca were beaten at home by Valencia, allowing Diego Simeone’s side to capitalise by seeing off Real Sociedad, opening up a three-point advantage.

But speaking at a Press conference ahead of Barca’s Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg against La Real, Martino backed his side to determine the title’s future.

“I don’t think we’ll stumble again,” the Coach told reporters.

“Even though we’re second in the League it’s in our hands.”

Martino added that he had spoken with the players about the Valencia defeat and how to cut out the mistakes that were made.

“We always talk with the players and certainly after a game as unusual as Saturday’s.

“We discussed our mistakes. They get harder to recover as we play more games.

“But whenever there is a loss the next game in an opportunity to put things right.”

Martino explained that he had called up every available player for the game, such is the value he places on the Copa.

“I have named all 22 players because of the importance of the match.

“And because I still haven’t decided who will play.

“I hope we get a big crowd at Camp Nou.

“It’s crucial we keep a clean sheet at home. It’s almost as good as a win, certainly with the attack we have.”
