Almeria game ‘a final’

Elche Coach Fran Escriba has described Sunday’s game with Almeria as akin to a Cup final, such is its importance.

The sides are separated by only a point prior to kick-off, with Almeria in 16th and Elche a place below. Two and one points respectively stand between the teams and the bottom three.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match Press conference, Escriba made no effort to downplay the importance of the fixture.

“It’s important because winning will mean we leave them behind in the standings, and we have to think of goal difference,” Escriba said.

“This is a more important game than the sexier ones against Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“It’s hard to appeal to our fans because they are always with us but we really need them against Almeria.

“They can surprise us like they did to Osasuna and Valladolid.

“But if we can win we’ll have a nice points cushion.”
