Former Barcelona President Joan Gaspart has defended Sandro Rosell after he resigned his position.
Rosell stepped down having been called to testify in the lawsuit brought by Jordi Cases around the signing of Neymar.
Gaspart however feels Rosell never should have taken such a step, and in a statement published by AS defended his successor and the club as a whole.
“I am convinced the board has done nothing wrong, nothing outside the law” Gaspart said.
“If they had explained very clearly to the judge we could have avoided this displeasure of losing a great President, Sandro Rosell, who is a great person.”
Gaspart added that deals the size of the one that signed Neymar are always complicated, and with Rosell resigning because of it, Barca are now a laughing stock.
“Signing a player who can be the best in the world and is wanted by everyone is never easy.
“Everyone wanted him and were willing to pay more.
“Today they are laughing at what is happening to us.
“Barca has always been fighting throughout the greatness and the misery.
“But the image of the club isn’t the best now. Fortunately it won’t affect the players.”
