Francisco apologises for Almeria exit

Almeria Coach Francisco has apologised to supporters after the club were knocked out of the Copa del Rey.

Racing Santander recorded a 2-0 away victory to seal a 3-1 aggregate win and Francisco asked fans for forgiveness, claiming he expected to do better in the competition.

“It’s lamentable because in the end we thought we were going to reach the quarter-finals, but we’ve been knocked out by a Segunda B side.

“First I want to apologise. This wasn’t a competition we were going to win but we should have reached the next round. I’m sorry that we won’t.”

Francisco added that he understood the supporters’ anger following the game and that he should bear the brunt of the complaints.

“They have every right to be angry,” he told reporters.

“I understand their anger because we all expected to be in the quarter-final.

“We have to remember that Racing knocked out Sevilla in the same way.

“I know the fans are angry. The players have done what I have asked. I am responsible for the result.”

Francisco went on to say that he hopes the elimination doesn’t have too much of an impact on the club’s League form.

“Everyone is angry. From tomorrow we have to return to our main objective, the League. Sevilla haven’t lost since they were knocked out.

“Hopefully the same happens to us. We have to focus and get positive results.”
