Jemez: Rayo not Primera standard

Paco Jemez pulled no punches following his Rayo Vallecano side’s 5-2 home thrashing by Villarreal on Monday.

A hat-trick from Ikechukwu Uche and two from Jeremy Perbet made it a miserable night for the Madrid side as the Yellow Submarine raced into a five-goal lead before taking their foot off the gas towards the end.

It was a display that had Jemez searching for answers as his team remain one place off the bottom of La Liga, whilst maintaining his players are not displaying the necessary standard required for the division.

“I have no arguments because the only ones that proved they belong in La Primera were our supporters,” he told a post-match Press conference.

“We have been conceding goals all season with astonishing ease. It’s not a matter of whether it is the defence or the goalkeeper as we are all in this together.

“Why is the possession 70-30 in our favour if we don’t take advantage when we get into our opponents’ area?

“If something does not work then you’ve got to be foolish to carry on doing the same thing. If I’ve got to look for alternatives in our reserve team then I will do.

“At the moment I’m just concentrating on the coaching but the club knows what it has to do.

“But I’m delighted with the youngsters and we are still alive,” he concluded.
